Current Set-Up

As virtual machine host platforms, I am currently using

• QEMU under Debian Linux on the AMD64 platform

to run the following guest virtual machines:

• Debian Linux, to securely browse the web.

Legacy Set-Up

I had used as virtual machine host

• Hyper-V as built into Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
  (I had used VirtualPC under Windows Vista before)

to run various guest VMs:

• Windows 10 itself to test software in a "sand box" like environment.
• Debian Linux, to securely browse the web
• TinyCore Linux, to securely browse the web

The Debian VM provided:

• browsing using the Firefox browser
• file exchange via FTP
• data exchange with the Windows VM-host via the clipboard
  • The Linux-GUI is provided by XRDP (not by X-Org). XRDP integrates well with Windows.

Related technology under Microsoft WIndows

Since version 1803, Windows 10 had been offering the Microsoft Edge browser in the "Application Guard" secure environment. This was also using virtual machine technology. Application Guard provides:

• file exchange via a special folder
• clipboard data exchange
  • Needs to be explicitely enabled in Application Guard
