Documentation about Virtual Machines
As virtual machine platform, I use Hyper-V as built into
Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. I had used VirtualPC under Windows Vista
before.
I am using various virtual machines:
- Windows 10 itself to test software in a "sand box" like environment.
- Debian Linux based and TinyCore Linux based, to securely browse the
web.
The Debian VM provides:
- browsing using the Firefox browser.
- file exchange via FTP
- data exchange with the Windows VM-host via the clipboard
- The Linux-GUI is provided by XRDP (not by X-Org). XRDP
integrates well with Windows.
Since version 1803, Windows 10 offers the Microsoft Edge browser in
the "Application Guard" secure environment. This is also using virtual
machine technology. Application Guard provides:
- file exchange via a special folder
- clipboard data exchange
- Needs to be explicitely enabled in Application Guard
I use Edge in Application Guard, if I need Edge functionality
